Holiday Club 2011
Our Holiday Club for this year, “Mission Rescue” has just come to an end and what a week it was!  There was a steady turnout of children, both from our church and the local community over the course of the week.
The main subject for the week was the Exodus from Egypt by Moses and the Israelites and the miracle of the Red Sea crossing but running in tandem with that was a “spy” theme which caused some excitement among the children!  The venue itself was transformed into a “Spy Base” with a painted backdrop on the platform and camouflage netting draped between the balconies, to make the aspiring “Agents” feel at home.
At the outset, all the children were asked to think of “Spy” names for themselves which they would be known by for the week and we were very impressed by the inventiveness of some of the names they came up with!  The “spy” theme was very well received and everyone entered into it (including the Holiday Club team) with great enthusiasm.  On the last day when the children were invited to come incognito, we were all dazzled by the efforts made by them to fulfil that request!
All of the aspects of the programme: games, crafts, music, dance, bible teaching, although strongly linked with the book of Exodus, also had the “spy” ingredient.  The children had a wonderful time cracking codes, making snake/sticks, learning “spy” moves to the theme song and becoming acquainted with Moses and how God delivered His people from slavery.  The drama “Who is the Mole?” Captured the imaginations of all of the children and they had all the characters worked out right away.  The DVD was also particularly entertaining and instructive for them.
For the first time, we had an older group of children aged 11-14, who had their own programme but joined the rest of the club for the main aspects of the overall programme.  This worked extremely well and the group enjoyed the activities which were geared more particularly for their age, but also the fact that they were free to be involved in the main part of the programme.  We hope this will be a regular slot for future holiday clubs.
All in all, the week was a tremendous success and the feedback from the children and their parents has been extremely positive in that the children thoroughly enjoyed all of the aspects and kept talking about Mission: Rescue when they went home!  Scripture Union, yet again, came up with an innovative programme which challenged and blessed children and adults alike.
The Holiday Club for 2012 will be revealed later in the year, so watch this space for further details!
